Community sports clubs run on commitment. The players, the volunteers, the committee members who keep fixtures organised and the bar open on a Saturday: they are what make a club function. The buildings they use need to keep up.

Runwell Sports & Social Club in Essex serves five sports across a large site with multiple facilities. Football, rugby, snooker, archery and bowls. The clubhouse had reached a point where refurbishment was overdue.

CGA has completed it. External works covering roofing, cladding and landscaping addressed the building fabric. Internally, the bar, changing rooms and social spaces have been upgraded and redecorated. The result is a clubhouse that reflects the ambition of the clubs using it.

It is a broad scope for a single programme. External and internal works ran simultaneously, with the club operating throughout. Getting that right requires planning and a contractor who understands what the building means to the people in it.

The clubs can get on with sport.
