Project Overview

CGA was appointed to carry out a specialist structural project at Harlow College (Stansted Airport College), comprising the creation of a new mezzanine floor to maximise the use of the existing workshop space. The project was delivered within an 8-week programme, with careful coordination to minimise disruption to ongoing college operations.

Scope of Works

Structural Steelwork

The installation of structural steelwork formed the primary element of the project, providing the support structure for the new mezzanine deck and ensuring full structural compliance throughout.

Service Adjustments

Existing services were adjusted and reconfigured to accommodate the new floor level, maintaining operational continuity across the workshop space during and after the works.

New Metal Staircase

A new metal staircase was constructed to provide safe and compliant access between the ground floor and the new mezzanine level, meeting all relevant building regulations and health and safety requirements.

Results

The project was completed on programme within 8 weeks, delivering a functional new mezzanine level that significantly expands the usable space within the college's workshop. The works were carefully coordinated to avoid disruption to college operations, demonstrating CGA's ability to deliver structural projects efficiently in a live education environment.
